Protection level of electrical cabinet enclosures

The IP protection level of the electrical cabinet is extremely important. Choosing the appropriate IP ensures stable operation of electrical equipment, increases the lifespan of the electrical cabinet, and prevents unnecessary intrusion from the outside environment. The IP protection level determines the operating system of the electrical cabinet.

According to DIN 40 050 and IEC 60529 standards, electrical cabinet covers must protect internal devices as follows:

Protection of human access to electrically charged elements and protection of penetration by external objects.
Protect water penetration into equipment in electrical cabinets
The codes follow international regulations of protection levels.

- Scope of application

IP31 - The cabinet is protected against the ingress of objects > 2.5 mm in size, and protected against the ingress of vertically falling water drops.

IP42 – The enclosure is protected against the ingress of objects >1 mm in size, and is protected against the ingress of water drops falling from above in a vertical and inclined direction.
